About the production
Bath Opera's touring production for 2016 was 'Madame Butterfly' by Puccini, performed at various venues in and around Bath in June and July 2016. The production was directed by Jane Clark, with musical direction by Peter Blackwood.
Set in the early 20th century when America was an ally of Japan the destiny of the main characters in this doomed love story is played out over a period of four years in Nagasaki, Japan. Puccini captures the Japanese character and atmosphere of Japan in his music which shows a delicacy that is in harmony with the spirit of the tea house.
