About the production
Suffering from paranoid hallucinations brought on by drug abuse, a pop star finds himself restrained and sedated in a sinister private hospital. His manipulative agent takes advantage of his condition to persuade him to rescue his ex-fiancee from the clutches of a mysterious rival. He is accompanied by the hospital porter who moonlights as a Council bird-catcher. But what is real and what is illusion? With original English lyrics, the World Premiere of this new version of The Magic Flute presents a modern parable of love, lust and loss - as viewed through the prism of Mozart's sublime music.
Fresh from his innovative production of Verdi’s Nabucco, John Palmer returns to direct our summer production of Mozart’s Magic Flute – A guaranteed entertaining and fulfilling night out indeed!
The production will be presented in Bath Opera's highly successful touring format, fully staged but without a large chorus.
The cast will include Rupert Drury as Tamino, Hannah Lockwood as Pamina, Cora Bethke as The Queen of the Night, Andrew Havers as Papageno, Fran Costigan as Papagena, Michael Aitkenhead as Monostatos, Judy Davis as Second Lady and Gill Clark as Third Lady.
